Bringing citizen action, public governance and research together to drive transformative change in urban mobility
CO/ALIGN is an international research project funded through the Driving Urban Transitions partnership that puts the power of civic action at the heart of urban mobility transitions. Often, civil society organizations (CSOs) face barriers in advancing 15-minute City transformations, including limited resources, political resistance, and restricted access to decision-making processes. CO/ALIGN addresses these challenges by fostering coalitions between CSOs, multi-level urban governments and knowledge institutions. It develops a European-wide ATLAS of CSO tactics, strategies, and coalitions, deepens understanding of how transformative change is achieved, and tests strategies for inclusive upscaling. Through this work, CO/ALIGN co-creates participatory approaches that scale mobility initiatives from the neighbourhood level to deeply embedded, transformative change.
